About KEY Files
Keynote is Apple's presentation app for Mac, iPhone and iPad, and .key is its format. Keynote presentations are known for smooth animations and transitions such as Magic Move. Windows and Android have no Keynote app, so these files need iCloud or an export to open elsewhere. Note that .key is also used for cryptographic key files, which are small text files, not presentations.
How to Open a KEY File
- Mac
- Double-click to open it in Keynote.
- iPhone & iPad
- Open it in the Keynote app.
- Windows & Android
- Upload it to Keynote at icloud.com with a free Apple Account, then download it as PowerPoint or PDF.
KEY File Questions
How do I open a Keynote file in PowerPoint?
In Keynote choose File, Export To, PowerPoint. Without a Mac, use Keynote at icloud.com.
My .key file is tiny and opens as text. Why?
It's probably a security key or licence key, not a presentation. Open it in a text editor to check.
