About Blank Code Files
Need an empty CSS or JavaScript file, a Markdown file with a heading, or a calendar, contact or subtitle file that's valid but has no entries yet? Pick the format and choose between a completely empty 0-byte file and the smallest valid one. Formats such as WebVTT, iCalendar, vCard, XML, GPX and KML need a header to be valid, so the starter includes it; scripts get the right shebang line. These files are handy for templates, project scaffolding and testing how apps handle empty input.

Questions
What's the difference between empty and starter?
Empty is 0 bytes. Starter adds the minimum some formats need, such as WEBVTT for subtitles, BEGIN:VCALENDAR for calendars, or an XML declaration and root element.
Which encoding do the files use?
UTF-8 without a byte order mark, which suits code editors and web servers.
Can I get a blank text file with a BOM?
Yes. Use Blank Text File, which offers UTF-8 with BOM and UTF-16.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Files are generated in your browser.
