About Split PDF
Splitting a PDF lets you send only the pages someone needs, break a large scan into separate documents, or pull a single form out of a long file. This tool offers four ways to split. Save every page as its own PDF, cut the file into custom ranges such as 1-3 and 4-6, divide it into files of a fixed number of pages, or extract chosen pages into one new PDF. Pages are copied exactly, so text stays sharp and selectable.

Why split a PDF?
Long PDFs are often more than you need to send. You might want to share one chapter of a report, send a single signed page back to a landlord, separate a scan of several documents into one file each, or break a large file into parts that each fit under an email or upload limit. Splitting gives you exactly the pages you want without editing software.
Four ways to split
One PDF per page saves every page as its own file, which is useful for separating scanned receipts or forms. One PDF per range lets you type ranges such as 1-3, 4-6, 7- and creates one file for each, perfect for dividing a document into sections or chapters.
Files of N pages each cuts the document into equal parts, for example every 10 pages, which is handy for very long scans or to keep each part under a size limit. One PDF with selected pages extracts just the pages you list, such as 1, 4, 9-12, into a single new PDF, which is the quickest way to pull out the pages someone asked for.
Writing page ranges
Separate pages and ranges with commas. Use a hyphen for a range, such as 4-6, and leave the end open to go to the last page, such as 8-. Pages are numbered as they appear in the PDF, starting at 1, regardless of any page numbers printed on the pages themselves. If a range would give you back the whole document unchanged, the tool tells you.
Quality and file names
Pages are copied exactly, so text stays sharp and selectable, links keep working and nothing is recompressed. Each output file is named after the original with its page numbers, for example report-pages-1-3.pdf, so the parts sort in order. Download them individually or all together as a ZIP.
Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked with their password before they can be split. To put pages back together, or combine parts from several documents, use Merge PDF. To make the resulting files smaller, run them through the PDF compressor.
Splitting to meet size limits
When a long scanned PDF is too large to upload, splitting it into equal parts is often easier than compressing it, because the pages keep their full quality. Use Files of N pages each and pick a number that keeps each part under the limit; for example, if a 60-page, 30 MB scan must be under 10 MB per file, split it into parts of 15–18 pages. Name each part clearly, such as part 1 of 4, so the recipient can put them back in order.
Splitting on a phone
The tool works on iPhone, iPad and Android: tap the box to choose a PDF from Files, Downloads or a cloud drive, pick how to split it, and save the parts to your device. It's a quick way to send just the relevant pages of a long document from your phone.
Questions
How do I write page ranges?
Separate parts with commas. Use a dash for a range, such as 4-6, and leave the end open to go to the last page, such as 8-.
What is the difference between ranges and extract?
Ranges makes one PDF per range. Extract puts all the pages you list into a single new PDF.
Does splitting change the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-compressing anything.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Unlock it first with the Unlock PDF tool, using its password, then split the unlocked copy.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is split in your browser.
