About Image to AVIF
AVIF is the newest widely supported image format. Based on the AV1 video codec, it often makes photos half the size of an equivalent JPG and noticeably smaller than WebP, while keeping transparency and smooth gradients. This tool converts JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and other images to AVIF with an encoder compiled to WebAssembly, so it works even where the browser can't save AVIF on its own. Encoding is slower than JPG, taking a few seconds per photo. Most modern browsers and phones can open AVIF.

Questions
Which browsers can show AVIF?
Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (version 16 and later) all display AVIF. Older software may not.
Why is AVIF slower to create than JPG?
AVIF compresses much harder, which takes more computing. Large photos can take several seconds each, especially on phones.
AVIF or WebP?
AVIF is usually smaller at the same quality. WebP encodes faster and is supported by more older apps.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The encoder runs in your browser.
