About PNG Compressor

PNG files store every pixel exactly, which is perfect for screenshots, logos and graphics but can make them heavy. The most effective way to shrink a PNG is to reduce the number of distinct colours it uses, turning a full-colour image into an indexed one. For many graphics and screenshots the difference is hard to spot, and the file can become a fraction of its original size. This compressor does that, keeps transparent backgrounds transparent, and lets you choose how many colours to keep. A lossless option is available when exact pixels matter.

How to Use It

  1. 01

Drop PNG images into the box or tap it to choose them.

  2. 02

256 colours suits most images. Fewer colours means smaller files; pick Lossless only to keep exact pixels.

Press Compress and compare the sizes, then download each PNG or a ZIP.

Questions

Is PNG compression lossy?

With a colour limit, yes: similar colours are merged into one palette. With "Lossless only", no pixels change, but savings are usually small because the PNG is just re-packed.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent areas are preserved in the compressed PNG.

Which images compress best?

Screenshots, diagrams, icons and illustrations with flat colours shrink the most. Photos saved as PNG compress too, but converting them to JPG usually saves far more.

Why do I see banding in gradients?

Smooth gradients need many colours. If you notice stripes, choose 256 colours, or keep the original for that image.
