About Blank Excel File

An empty spreadsheet is useful as an upload template, a test file for an import feature, or a starting point when you are on a device without Excel. This tool creates a minimal, valid XLSX workbook. Choose how many empty sheets it should have, from one up to fifty, and they are named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on, just like a new Excel workbook. The file opens in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers and LibreOffice Calc. There is nothing to install and no sign-up.

How to Use It

  1. 01

    Choose the number of sheets

Enter how many empty sheets the workbook should contain.

  2. 02

    Name the file

Optionally type a file name. Otherwise it is called blank.xlsx.

  3. 03

    Create and download

Press Create XLSX and download the empty workbook.

Questions

Will the spreadsheet open in Excel?

Yes. It is a standard Office Open XML workbook, the format Excel uses by default. Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice open it too.

Can I rename the sheets?

Yes, once it is open in your spreadsheet app. The generator names them Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on.

Do you also make empty CSV files?

Yes. The Blank CSV File tool makes an empty CSV, optionally with a header row of column names.

Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. The workbook is built in your browser and downloaded directly.
