About LOG Files
LOG files record what a program, service or system did, usually one line per event with a timestamp, such as errors, warnings and status messages. They help diagnose crashes and problems. Most are plain text you can read in any editor, though very large logs open better in a dedicated viewer. Logs can contain private details, such as usernames or IP addresses, so review them before sharing.
How to Open a LOG File
- Any device
- Open it in a text editor or drag it into a browser.
- Large logs
- Use VS Code, Notepad++ or the Console app on Mac.
