About DjVu Files
DjVu, pronounced 'déjà vu', was designed to store scanned pages, especially books and documents with a mix of text and pictures, in much smaller files than PDF or TIFF could at the time. It separates the text layer from the background to compress each in the best way. DjVu is still found in digital libraries and archives of old books, but few everyday apps support it, so a dedicated viewer or a conversion to PDF is usually needed.
