About CR2 Files
CR2 is the RAW format used by Canon DSLR cameras from roughly 2004 until 2018, when newer models switched to CR3. A CR2 file holds the sensor data before the camera processes it into a JPG, so you can recover highlights and shadows and change white balance without losing quality. RAW files need to be processed, or developed, in a photo editor before they look finished. Each file also contains a small embedded JPG preview, which is what quick viewers display.

CR2 File Questions
What's the difference between CR2 and CR3?
CR3 is Canon's newer RAW format, introduced in 2018. It makes smaller files and needs newer software to open.
How do I convert CR2 to JPG?
Open it in Photos, Preview or a RAW editor and export as JPG. That also lets you adjust exposure and colour first.
