About VOB Files
VOB files are found in the VIDEO_TS folder of a DVD and hold the film's MPEG-2 video, audio tracks, subtitles and menus. A film is usually split into several VOB files of up to 1 GB each. Commercial DVDs are often encrypted, so copied VOB files may not play. VLC plays VOB files from unencrypted discs, and HandBrake can convert a whole DVD folder to a single MP4.
How to Open a VOB File
- Windows & Mac
- Play it in VLC, or open the whole VIDEO_TS folder in VLC to get the menus.
- Any device
- Convert the DVD folder to MP4 with HandBrake to watch it on phones and TVs.
