About MPG Files
MPG files contain video compressed with MPEG-1, used for Video CDs, or MPEG-2, used for DVDs, digital TV and early camcorders. The format is old and makes larger files than modern codecs for the same quality, but it is very widely supported by media players. Recordings from older TV tuners and camcorders often come as MPG. Converting to MP4 with H.264 makes them much smaller.
