About SVG Files
SVG describes an image with shapes, lines, curves and text instead of pixels, so it can be scaled up to any size without becoming blurry. It is the standard format for logos, icons, charts and illustrations on the web. An SVG file is actually text written in XML, so you can open it in a text editor and change colours or shapes by hand. SVG isn't suitable for photos. Because SVG files can contain scripts, websites that accept uploads often block or sanitise them.

SVG File Questions
Can I convert a JPG or PNG to SVG?
Only by tracing it, which recreates the shapes as vectors. This works for simple logos but not for photos. Inkscape and Illustrator have tracing tools.
Is an SVG file safe to open?
Viewing it as an image in a browser is safe. Opened directly, an SVG can run scripts like a web page, so only open SVGs from sources you trust.
