About ODT Files
ODT is the default document format of LibreOffice Writer and Apache OpenOffice. Like DOCX, it is a ZIP archive of XML files, but it follows the OpenDocument standard published by OASIS and ISO. Some governments require OpenDocument formats for public documents because they aren't tied to one company. Microsoft Word and Google Docs can open and save ODT files, though complex formatting can change slightly when moving between apps.
How to Open an ODT File
- Windows
- Open it in LibreOffice Writer or Microsoft Word.
- Any device
- Upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs.
- iPhone & Android
- Open it in Google Docs or Collabora Office.
