About OBJ Files
OBJ is a simple, widely supported text format for 3D models. It stores vertices, faces, normals and texture coordinates, and refers to a companion .mtl file for materials and texture images. Almost every 3D app can import and export OBJ, making it a common way to move models between programs. It doesn't store animation. The .obj extension is also used for compiled object files in programming, which are unrelated.
How to Open an OBJ File
- Windows
- Open it in 3D Viewer, Blender or any 3D app.
- Mac
- Preview shows OBJ models. Blender opens them for editing.
