About AMR Files
AMR is a codec designed for voice calls on mobile networks. It compresses speech to very low bitrates, which makes small files but sounds poor for music. Older phones and some Android voice recorders and call recorders save AMR files, and some messaging apps use it for voice messages. Browsers and most desktop media players don't play AMR, so it often needs converting.
How to Open an AMR File
- Windows & Mac

- Android

AMR File Questions
How do I convert AMR to MP3?
Open it in VLC and use Media, Convert/Save, or use Audacity with the FFmpeg library. Browsers can't decode AMR.
Why does AMR audio sound bad?
It was designed for phone calls, so it keeps only the frequency range of the human voice at very low bitrates.
