About WMV Files
WMV was Microsoft's video format for Windows Media Player and was common for downloads, early web video and Windows Movie Maker projects. It is stored in Microsoft's ASF container. Windows plays it natively, but Macs, phones and browsers generally don't, so old WMV videos are usually converted to MP4.
