About M4R Files
An M4R file is an AAC audio file, the same as M4A, with an extension that tells iPhones and iTunes to treat it as a ringtone. iPhone ringtones can be up to 40 seconds long, and alert tones up to 30 seconds. You can create one by trimming a song, saving it as AAC and renaming the extension from .m4a to .m4r, or with GarageBand on the iPhone.
