About 001 Files
A .001 file is the first piece of a larger file that was split into parts, followed by .002, .003 and so on. File splitters, 7-Zip and HJSplit produce these to fit large files on small drives or past upload limits. Sometimes the parts are a split archive, such as archive.zip.001, which must be extracted with an archiver; other times they are raw pieces that just need to be joined back together in order.
How to Open a 001 File
- Any device
- Use the Join Files tool on this site to combine .001, .002 and the rest back into the original file.
- Windows
- Open the .001 file in 7-Zip. If it's a split archive, 7-Zip extracts it; otherwise it combines the parts.
- Mac & Linux
- Use Keka, or run cat file.* > file in a terminal to join raw parts.
